Anti-inflammatory GLA helps clear your skin and can even relieve PMS.
Do you blush easily? Have small, red bumps on your face? Or irritated, crusty eyes? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may have rosacea.
Up to 100 million people worldwide do, says the International Rosacea Foundation. Most at risk are people with fair skin, light-colored hair and eyes, particularly women between 30 and 60—especially if you're undergoing perimenopause or menopause. It's no wonder that rosacea is one of the leading topics on dermatology websites.
A chronic condition, rosacea occurs when… Continue reading Age-Defying Energy Strategy

Think and feel young—at any age.
Years ago when I was nutritional director at the Pritikin Longevity Center, I had the opportunity to speak with a number of distinguished individuals—ambassadors, celebrities, CEOs, and former government officials who had traveled the world. I became intrigued by glowing reports from many of these people about an amazing anti-aging therapy.
Not only did they report increased energy and mental clarity, but they also showed clear signs of youthfulness—graying hair returning to its natural color, better skin and stronger nails, fewer… Continue reading Defat Your Hips, Waist and Thighs

Use GLA to keep the pounds off—for good.
New evidence suggests that gamma linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6 essential fat, may prevent weight regain following major weight loss. The Department of Nutrition at the University of California conducted a yearlong double-blind study involving fifty formally obese people. They were randomized to receive either 890 mg of GLA per day or the placebo of 5 g per day of olive oil, and their body weight and composition was assessed at 0, 3, and 12 months.
Upon completion of the study, those who received GLA had… Continue reading Ditch That Itch

The right fat relieves red, itchy skin.
Got dry, itchy skin? Atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, is all too common this time of year—and scratching can disturb sleep and even lead to infection.
The good news is that omega 6-rich gamma linoleic acid (GLA), needed for healthy skin, offers speedy, safe relief—without using dangerous steroid drugs. In fact, research suggests eczema may result from a GLA deficiency.
Essential fatty acid researcher Artur Klimaszewski, MD, has found that, in eczema, the conversion of dietary linoleic acid- found in common vegetable oils- to GLA is… Continue reading Signs Your Body Is Calling For Help

Skin tags can be red flags for insulin resistance—and much more.
Ever notice soft bits of raised and hanging skin—commonly called skin tags—on your neck, torso, or anywhere your skin rubs together? Some people are more likely to develop these benign growths on the surface of their skin—as many as 50 to 100 on some individuals.
While dermatologists are rarely concerned about skin tags, current research is beginning to link this form of skin growth with insulin resistance or prediabetes. "We recommend a high level of suspicion for impaired carbohydrate metabolism in patients… Continue reading Get Down-to-Earth to Fix What Ails You

Ground yourself to slash belly fat and zap hot flashes, sleeplessness, and stress.
Which of these scenarios would you prefer? Trouble falling asleep only to awaken several times each night, muscle pain and leg cramps, plus hot flashes. Or this? Falling sound asleep with reduced back, leg, and neck pain, plus fewer hot flashes?
That's a no brainer! Anyone would take the second option over the first. But wait, what if that meant taking drugs with dubious or even dangerous side effects? In that case, many of us might try to live with… Continue reading Are Medical Tests Making You Sick?

Concerns are growing about high-tech scans, even mammograms.
In the last decade, medical personnel have upped their use of CT scans and MRIs significantly—without a corresponding rise in life-threatening conditions, a new study in JAMA shows. Earlier this year over 250 patients at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center got far more radiation than they bargained for—burning their skin and causing some to lose their hair—from CT scans.
The federal Food and Drug Administration that regulates radiation machines has limited oversight of this equipment, so responsibility rests with the states. The New York Times reports that… Continue reading Is Your Laptop Toasting You?

Avoiding "toasted skin" is just the beginning – protect yourself from infertility and worse.
Have you ever noticed a sponge-patterned skin discoloration on your thighs? If so—and you use a laptop computer—you may be literally "roasting" your skin.
Last week, the journal Pediatrics reported on a 12-year-old boy with this condition. "He recognized that the laptop got hot on the left side," researchers say, "however, regardless of that, he did not change its position."
A Virginia law school student suffered a similar ugly rash, resembling skin damage from long-term sun exposure, after using her laptop… Continue reading Save Face With Natural Treatments to Heal Acne

Restore glowing skin—without gut pain caused by acne drugs.
New research reported in the American Journal of Gastroenterology links drugs commonly prescribed to help control acne to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). While dermatologist David Margolis, MD, calls these bowel disorders "a rare outcome," earlier studies have shown that Accutane (or isotretinoin) can also cause IBD in some people with severe acne.
That's not the only problem: Accutane carries the risk of severe birth defects. This drug has been found to damage intestinal mucosa, leading to bloody diarrhea and colitis, while aggravating Crohn's disease… Continue reading
