Getting the dairy-free calcium you need.
For over ten years, we have seen the infamous milk mustache on celebrities, supermodels, and star athletes. The Got Milk? campaign ads are probably the most successful advertising campaign in history. You’ve got to hand it to the dairy industry. The ads must be working because Americans still consume more dairy products than any other nation.
And we suffer from far more calcium-related degenerative diseases—like obesity, osteoporosis, arteriosclerosis, and cataracts—than the Asians or Africans where dairy intake is minimal or non-existent.
While milk may be rich in calcium (1200… Continue reading Edge on Health Blog

Use GLA to keep the pounds off—for good.
New evidence suggests that gamma linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6 essential fat, may prevent weight regain following major weight loss. The Department of Nutrition at the University of California conducted a yearlong double-blind study involving fifty formally obese people. They were randomized to receive either 890 mg of GLA per day or the placebo of 5 g per day of olive oil, and their body weight and composition was assessed at 0, 3, and 12 months.
Upon completion of the study, those who received GLA had… Continue reading The Barefoot Connection

A landmark discovery can help you sleep better, relieve stress, and have more energy.
What's the most sensitive part of your body—per square inch? If you guessed the foot, then you are right on. Believe it or not, your foot contains 1,300 nerve endings per square inch! "That's more than [is] found on any other part of the body of comparable size," says podiatrist and researcher William Rossi, DPM.
Why?
"To keep us 'in touch' with the Earth," he says," the real physical world around us. It's called 'sensory response.'" Much like an animal's… Continue reading Reason to Give Thanks

Consider this anti-aging secret that's been around for decades.
What if there was a safe way to eliminate anxiety and depression, colds and infections, joint pain and headaches, fatigue, heart disease and high blood pressure, even osteoporosis? Surprisingly, there is a substance that repairs old and damaged cell membranes so that they absorb nutrients more efficiently. The results? Dramatic mental and physical improvements—including less mortality.
As with most great innovations, procaine (the prime active ingredient in GH-3) was discovered by accident. In 1949, Dr. Ana Aslan at the National Geriatric Institute in Bucharest… Continue reading Ditch That Itch

The right fat relieves red, itchy skin.
Got dry, itchy skin? Atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, is all too common this time of year—and scratching can disturb sleep and even lead to infection.
The good news is that omega 6-rich gamma linoleic acid (GLA), needed for healthy skin, offers speedy, safe relief—without using dangerous steroid drugs. In fact, research suggests eczema may result from a GLA deficiency.
Essential fatty acid researcher Artur Klimaszewski, MD, has found that, in eczema, the conversion of dietary linoleic acid- found in common vegetable oils- to GLA is… Continue reading Take Your Body to the Cleaners

Lower your toxic load and shed unwanted body fat with safe autumn detox.
Worldwide, obesity is on the rise. The Centers for Disease Control describes American society as "obesogenic," promoting increasingly unhealthy foods, increased food intake, and physical inactivity.
In today's petrochemical world, the more fat you store in your body, the more toxins you retain. Nearly 100,000 toxins assault your body on a daily basis—even at low levels. Many of these, like pesticides and plastics, can disrupt metabolism, contributing to overweight and obesity.
"Automobile exhaust (in air), heavy metals (in food and… Continue reading What You Can Learn from the Birds and Bees

Simple ways to avoid the growing problems associated with man-made frequencies.
What do bees, birds (not just canaries), and humans have in common? We're all sensitive to the rapidly proliferating expansion of man-made energy from antennae, cell and cordless phones, digital devices, electrical and electronic equipment, microwaves, radio waves, PDAs, satellite TVs, and wireless.
Birds will avoid microwave radiation if they can; they collapse within seconds if they can't. And bee colony collapse—a worldwide phenomenon with potentially devastating impact on our food supply since these insects are prime pollinators—has recently been linked to… Continue reading Are We Killing Ourselves Slowly with the Latest Technology?

Ground yourself to slash belly fat and zap hot flashes, sleeplessness, and stress.
Which of these scenarios would you prefer? Trouble falling asleep only to awaken several times each night, muscle pain and leg cramps, plus hot flashes. Or this? Falling sound asleep with reduced back, leg, and neck pain, plus fewer hot flashes?
That's a no brainer! Anyone would take the second option over the first. But wait, what if that meant taking drugs with dubious or even dangerous side effects? In that case, many of us might try to live with… Continue reading Getting Enough Vitamin G?
October 25th, 2010
"Vitamin G" is a natural solution to aches, chronic fatigue, and insomnia.
Does pain keep you from sleeping well—even with medicine and/or sleep aids? It did to one 49-year-old woman with chronic back and neck pain. No matter what meds she took the night before, she awakened stiff and sore—and had trouble getting through the day because she was so tired.
Then she tried a special sleep system that literally grounded her to the Earth. And after four nights, she reported substantially less pain, better quality sleep, and very little stiffness on waking… Continue reading
