Bile- the quart size missing ingredient for daily detox and effortless weight loss.
You know that probably nothing you can do in 2012 to lessen your toxic load or control your weight will be as important as keeping your liver in tip top shape. Most of us are familiar with herbal liver detoxifiers like milk thistle, Oregon grape root, and dandelion root. But these pale in comparison to the power of your own bile.
Your liver, in its innate wisdom, synthesizes and secretes about 1 ½ quarts of this miraculous substance on a daily… Continue reading Stop Counting Calories, Count on Probiotics!

A daily dose of probiotics or friendly bacteria may be the real deal when it comes to weight loss.
A landmark study published in Nature found that without the right amounts of friendly bacteria, animals got twice as fat and utilized less calories from the same amount of food than those with the more healthy bacteria ratio.
Who knew that the right kind of bacteria could turbocharge the body’s ability to extract and absorb dietary calories more efficiently?
A ratio of about 85:15 in favor of the good guy probiotics can establish the right balance… Continue reading Frightening Food!

Prevent gut grief with my three GI “miracle molecules.”
It was hard to miss the glaring headlines last week warning us of listeria-ridden cantaloupe.
But the problems with America’s inner workings go way beyond today’s cantaloupe or tainted meats and peanut butter, or the contaminated spinach of years past. Food maladies are definitely on the rise, pathogens are bombarding us—and we’re fighting them off around the family dinner table. Now more than ever, we need a plan of action to defend our bodies against gut-wrenching woes.
I think it is high time we take a… Continue reading The Healing Powers of Coffee

A novel way to feel good—the coffee enema approach.
Coffee is undoubtedly one of the world's most beloved superfoods. In fact, I am currently reviewing a new book that will feature the healing powers of coffee.
New research suggests that a jolt of java has many positive benefits like lowering the risk of Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, cirrhosis of the liver, and memory loss linked with aging. But there are also studies which suggest that coffee weakens the adrenal glands (your body's emergency fight or flight system), depletes calcium resulting in an increased risk for osteoporosis, raises blood pressure… Continue reading Toxic Travel

How to avoid bringing home surprising souvenirs.
Getting away for a much needed vacation is the highlight of many people’s summer, but unwittingly being exposed to toxic invaders can leave you with a ruined trip and a problem that follows you home. You’re not a party pooper if you take precautions—you’re a smart traveler. Check out some of these ways to safeguard your long-term health by avoiding pathogens away from home.
Don’t share your phone. A microbiologist at the University of Arizona in Tucson found that 50 percent of the cell phones he examined… Continue reading Winter Wellness Fat Flushing Alert

Drink your greens to fight off germs and detox.
Like many of you, I must admit that during this time of the year I simply don’t eat enough green veggies. Maybe it’s because during the winter months fresh produce spends days—if not weeks—in shipping or simply sitting at the grocery store losing nutrients. What I have seen in the supermarket just doesn’t look all that appealing.
So, to help get those greens and ward off wintertime chills, colds, and flu at the same time, I try to drink my greens!
I can't think of a… Continue reading

H20 can equate to amoeba, pesticides, birth control pills, and rocket fuel.
I couldn't help but notice August's Reader's Digest cover article and exposé on America's drinking water. I wasn't totally surprised that there may be more than 60,000 different chemicals in our water—like thyroid-impairing chlorine, fluoride, brominated byproducts, perchlorate (an ingredient found in rocket fuel), and heavy metals like iron, lead, mercury, cadmium, copper, and aluminum. But the EPA only protects us from about 100 of these contaminants!
According to the National Resource Defense Council, approximately 2/3 of all the bottled water on the market is sourced from contaminated water. So, bottled…
