The belly fat solution I bet you’ve never heard of.
The new research regarding the D connection to obesity is so compelling that I felt it was high time to detail the latest D-iscoveries.
A 2010 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that subjects with healthy vitamin D levels lost about twice as much weight as those with the lowest levels, and there is plenty of “skinny” science to back it up.
So, if you’ve been carrying around 10 to 15 extra pounds, the “sunshine” vitamin just might be the missing link.
Here’s a snapshot of the mounting D research:
Are You D Deficient?
Besides packing on belly fat and the inability to lose weight, other symptoms include fatigue, depression, low immunity, greater susceptability to flus and viruses, and joint and bone aches and pains. Only those of us living below 34 degrees north latitude (a line connecting Los Angeles, CA and Columbia, SC) actually get enough sunlight for vitamin D production year-round.
How to Boost Your D Stores
With the summer sun fading fast, and fall rapidly approaching, we can’t rely on rays alone. Start by adding D-rich foods to your diet like button and shitake mushrooms, eggs, salmon, and sardines.
When it comes to supplementation, I always suggest D3 (cholecalciferol), as it’s the type of vitamin D the body naturally produces in the skin in response to sun exposure. I’ve found Thorne D-5000 to be the very best dietary supplement out there because it contains pure, undiluted D3 without added preservatives. This is in line with the Vitamin D Council’s recommendation of 5,000 IU of vitamin D daily for adults. Children can take 1,000 IU per 25 pounds of body weight daily. Blood levels for adults should ideally range between 50 and 80 ng/mL, year round according to the D Council.
One thing’s for sure—I have D-etermined that the “sunshine” vitamin may be the weight loss catalyst of the century!
We agree totally regarding your concerns about K-2 and ALG has written about this previously with regard to bones and veins. Excellent comment, Deb
I tried to find ALG’s articles about K2 with regard to bones and veins. How can I find ALG’s information about K2?
You can read ALG’s take on vitamin K here > http://www.annlouise.com/blog/2012/02/21/make-varicose-veins-vanish/
Anne Louise has recently written about CLA and GLA being used for weightloss, and now this and she has mentioned Vit K2. What would be her ideal protocol of supplements to start losiing weight.
Cynthia: ALG has written for years about the fatty acids – CLA and GLA – which are part and parcel of her Fat Flush protocol. The Vitamin D article was written from a weight loss perspective because most people are already taking Vitamin D for overall health and the weight loss tie-in is an extra perk. That being said, if you follow her 1 gram of CLA per meal, 2 GLA 90′s twice per day as well as take your D (5,000 IU for optimum health) and follow the Fat Flushing protocols and a regular exercise program, you will be good to go. The comments about K-2 are in relationship to the absorption of calcium – not specific for weight loss.
I am a diabetic type 1 are these good for me ??? tried CLA has not helped me loose weight but then again I think I am starting my menopause, hot flashes, insomnia and its mostly belly at I actually look pregnant now !!! and i’m 48 yrs old. Help
Ninon, you could really benefit from using a progesterone cream. I’ve spoken with countless women who had experienced the same symptoms as yourself, who were greatly helped by using Ann Louise’s Progesta-Key.
A lot of the commments on this blog show that there is complete ignorance about these things
please comment on Vitamin K2 being absolutely vital for the proper functioning of D and calcium. Most people don’t have enough Vitamin K2 to keep calcium from being deposited incorrectly in arteries and capillaries.
