The truth about HFCS, Splenda, Agave, and Truvia.
Sit down at any restaurant these days. To sweeten your tea (or coffee) you can choose from the white, blue, pink, yellow, or maybe even green "stuff." While we know that white sugar has been associated with over 60 health ailments, what about the rest?
For starters, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is probably the most insidious of all sugar substitutes, as it alone accounts for more than 40% of caloric sweeteners added to foods and drinks in the US—with consumption growth matching the escalating rise in obesity…

Magnesium to the rescue.
Earthquakes. Tsunamis. Nuclear meltdowns. I can’t help but think of the ominous Chinese proverb, “May you live in interesting times.”
Without a doubt, we are living with major Earth changes on a daily basis. When it comes to health, the single most important lifestyle change you can make these days is to optimize magnesium intake. Many of us are aware of the importance of both calcium and magnesium metabolism—two minerals essential for the nourishment and health of the nervous system, as well as of bones and the heart. Maintaining a…

Convenience vs. health.
Radiation has sure been in the news a lot these days—and for good reason. But what about the radiation emitted from your microwave oven? Microwaves are a form of electromagnetic energy, like radio waves or light waves. They don’t use nuclear power, but they do use radio frequencies (RF) like radio and TV broadcast towers, cell phones, and radar. Although they’re a popular way of reheating or even cooking foods, I’ve never been comfortable with them—even though a whopping 95% of the population owns one.
Guess What

Say goodbye to cravings, bloating, and possible thyroid problems.
Yeast is definitely nobody's BFF. But it can be with us for life—which is why I was so happy to finally read
an article about yeast overgrowth on the front page of the Lifestyle section in the Spokesman Review. Yeast is finally getting the respect it deserves. And it’s about time because I believe nearly 50 million of us suffer from that subclinical fungus among us.
Yeast plays a very insidious role in weight gain—and can contribute to nearly 30 pounds of flab in some cases. Why? It's because yeast is…

Are you living close to a nuclear plant?
The whole world is watching the tragic aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Headlines of the resulting nuclear crisis leave us with images of workers in protective suits, smoke rising, and feelings of uncertainty and fear. Last Tuesday, I blogged about what you can do to help eliminate and protect against radiation. But is the Japanese tragedy our only radiation worry? What about nuclear exposure right here in our own country?
There are over 100 operating nuclear plants in the USA. Millions of Americans live within 100 miles of a nuclear…

What you can eat to beat nuclear plant fallout.
Last Friday, Japan was hit with an 8.9-magnitude earthquake—the largest since the country began keeping records in the 19th century. It was followed by a tsunami that ripped through the country’s coastline, destroying virtually everything in sight. The quake damaged several nuclear reactors, leading to threats of harmful radioactive leaks and meltdowns. Because radioactivity is airborne, it can be transported for hundreds of miles beyond its origin.
This air-borne radiation may take weeks or even months to reach our coasts, but reach us, it will.
Radiation damages…

My tips for healthy choices aisle by aisle.
Let's go shopping! Food shopping, that is. Like many of you, “fast food” is often all my busy schedule allows these days—but I don’t mean the kind that involves a drive through window. Today, I’m sharing with you what ends up in my cart when I head to my local health food store in search of quick snacks and ingredients for simple meals that are packed with nutrition.
Since it’s never a good idea to shop when you’re hungry—all the harder to resist temptation—I would first whip up…

Recent test results left me mystified.
For over ten years, I have been on the trail of heavy metal. And no, I'm not talking Led Zepplin, here! Twice a year, I test myself using a
Tissue Mineral Analysis to identify patterns of glandular health and emotional trends that can be assessed from mineral ratios (sodium to potassium correlates with adrenal function, calcium to potassium reveals thyroid efficiency, low sodium and high potassium is known as the fear formula, while calcium to magnesium is associated with blood sugar).
Imagine my surprise when I received my latest
TMA—which…

Are there stealth chemicals you're being exposed to?
A very interesting
recent study caught my eye when the headline
"ALG is Right Again - Don't Trust Plastic!" was posted on my
Forum. The study revealed that after observing 450 different plastic items, 70%—including those marked BPA-free—leeched chemicals that mimic estrogen. Reaction from the scientific community was mixed. Yikes!
After carefully considering the practical aspects of the research, I decided that I, for one, will continue to use my lightweight and oh-so-convenient-to carry BPA-free water bottles. But…

Harness the power of your lymph—the body’s natural fat flusher.
So, you’re on Fat Flush or Fast Track. You’ve gained a huge amount of energy. You now have healthy, glowing skin, your eyes have a sparkle, and you’re even standing up straighter. There’s only one thing about your appearance that still may concern you—nagging cellulite.
Although no one is really sure about what causes cellulite, there are lots of theories: heredity, water retention, excess estrogen, and poor circulation. Some experts simply dismiss it as another type of body fat. I prefer…
