Over the Holidays and during the New Year, Try Slimming Fats: Chia and Fish Oil.
If fighting arthritis, diabetes, and heart disease weren’t benefits enough, the healing, omega-3-rich fats in fish oil can also flatten your tummy. Reams of research show EPA and DHA in fish oil boost brain, eye, and joint health as well.
What most people don’t realize, though, is that fish oil can trim dangerous belly fat (linked to both cardiovascular disease and Type 2 diabetes)—as well as excess pounds. In one study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, subjects who consumed fish oil and walked 45 minutes three times a week lost as much as 5 pounds more than the control groups.
New placebo-controlled research from Beloit College in Wisconsin also suggests that DHA in fish oil is an effective weight-loss tool for mature women, who often have the hardest time with permanent weight loss.
That’s one reason I’ve added fish oil to the “good” fat recommendations in my latest book, Fat Flush for Life, the Year-Round Super Detox Plan to Boost Metabolism and Keep Weight Off Permanently. But that’s not the only slimming fat!
Chia seeds, once a sacred food in ancient cultures, are the latest Fat Flush staple. Among the world’s most fiber-rich foods, chia seeds are the highest natural source of omega-3s, proven to lower fattening stress hormones like cortisol.
Stressing out about the holidays? Sprinkle some chia seeds on casseroles, salads, veggies, and yogurt. You’ll also find delicious new recipes for tummy-flattening frappes using chia in Fat Flush for Life.
Big Benefits in Small Packages
Just one ounce of these tiny seeds yields almost 5 grams of omega-3s. That’s over 100 percent of the daily dose recommended by the American Heart Association! That same ounce of chia seeds also provides over 10 grams of soluble fiber—more than one-third the amount the U. S. Department of Agriculture recommends every day.
Chia seeds are extremely nutrient dense, rich in antioxidants like vitamin C, other essential fatty acids that fight overweight and obesity, minerals (far more plant-based calcium than broccoli), and over 4 grams of protein. They’re even gluten free!
An animal study in the British Journal of Nutrition finds that chia seeds fight abdominal fat and normalize insulin resistance. Given the epidemic rates of Type 2 diabetes and blood sugar problems as well as obesity, I’ve included great-tasting ways to use chia in Fat Flush for Life.
These seeds retain their freshness for a long time when stored in a cool, dry place. And, unlike flax seeds that need to be ground for full nutritional benefits, chia seeds are easily digested without the extra step of grinding.
Hold the Heavy Metals
Due to increasing levels of mercury, avoid mackerel, swordfish, fresh and frozen tilefish and tuna, and some kinds of shellfish. While researchers continue to debate the merits of fish over fish oil and supplements, I am now recommending that you also avoid all freshwater and farm-raised fish.
Instead, take Super EPA, purified fish oil that’s free from PCBs and heavy metals—but rich in “good” omega-3s EPA and DHA. Research confirms that these marine lipid concentrates offer weight loss benefits, lower cholesterol and triglycerides, relieve arthritis and joint inflammation, and repair cardiovascular damage due to clogged arteries.
Combining fish oil with exercise significantly reduces body fat, making this an effective way to optimize body composition in both overweight and obese individuals. New research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is starting to explain some of the ways in which fish oil fights insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes, while protecting the liver and cardiovascular health.
In Fat Flush for Life, I’ve added Super EPA to my original Fat Flush protocol, along with plenty of convenient, easy exercise tips—ranging from Warm-Up Stretches and Yoga Quickies to effective Cardio Toning on the Treadmill. Slimming fats combined with energizing workouts can keep your tummy flat, even over the holidays!

I clicked on a link that said: A Fat Flush for Life sneak preview: Control Weight with Probiotics. This article contains nothing about probiotics, only chia seeds that I have to order from uni-key. Am I missing something?
Peggy: I think you clicked on this link rather than the previous blog. Go to the top of this blog and click on the article posted in small print, upper left hand corner. There is plenty about probiotics there
In Irvine & Costa Mesa, California, we have a grocery/health food store similar to Whole Foods called “Mothers”. Mothers sells Chia Seeds.
If you take the Super EPA, do we eliminate one tablespoon of Flax Seed oil or Fish oil from the two tablespoons of Flax Seed oil required under Fat Flush?
Sharon-You can eliminate one of the TBSP’s of Flax Seed oil when using the Super EPA.
There are two separate types of chia seeds. Salba is the white/beige kind and is supposed to be superior to the regular chia seeds from all the research I have read. Salba is a form of chia seeds and is sold in many health food stores as well. I grind two tablespoons and put in my morning shake – great way to start the day.
