Happy June!!
Just heard about the nation’s longest-running study of aging , the Baltimore Longitudinal Study.
Since this month heralds a new birthday for me, I have become extremely interested in studies of this kind – as those of us striving for “quality longevity” should be
Since 1958, the study has included about 1,500 participants who are regularly tested for in-depth physicals, memory, and various screenings. Years before it occurs, the study can indicate signs of Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia.
Even though cancer is a big concern about most Americans, the Baltimore Longitudinal Study has revealed the most critical concern of aging seniors is …..memory.
Besides my Ultra H-3, I also include a daily dose (two tablespoons to be exact) of lecithin in all of my smoothies. Lecithin is a rich source of beneficial fatty acids and important elements like phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine which contribute to brain function. The brain is 30% lecithin, in fact, which is why it was a favorite of the old timers who used it daily for memory.
When I worked in health food stores in the ’70′s, lecithin was one of the most popular supplements people bought. I can recount lots of stories from people who swore it reversed cognitive problems. One woman was told to take it during pregnancy. She did. Her children were tested with genius level IQs.
Impressive? I’ll say.
The myelin sheaths that protect the nerves, spine, and brain are over 2/3 lecithin and even the heart contains a high concentration of the stuff.
Lecithin is an ingredient in the Weight Loss Formula for the above reasons. My thinking in creating the product was that there would be no use in have a shrinking waistline if your brain is also shrinking.
Protecting brain function also includes being both physically and mentally active, of course. Exercise and crossword puzzles are key, as many of you already know.
Coming of age can be a challenge or a wonderful adventure into unchartered territory.
Speaking of adventures, I would be terribly remiss if I didn’t remind you about our upcoming Cruise to Lose to Alaska from September 6 – 13, 2009. You’ll kickstart weight loss and a brand new YOU.
